The town is surrounded by hills all around with the prominent cliff popularly known as Nagari nose is conspicuous for miles around. Which was used as a light house in olden days in Bay of Bengal. Still every Powrnami day light will be lit in the nose of the hill.

The name of the town Nagari originated from the above mentioned hill, “Nag” means Nose and “Giri” means Hill in Telugu.

The Nagari a.k.a Kusasthalai river runs on the south of Nagari.
